Kalamoir Park is being Threatened
Kalamoir Park is a local gem. It is designated as a Regional District Conservation Park. There are not many parks that have this important designation.
Kalamoir Park was entrusted to the RDCO by the Province of British Columbia in 1983 with the explicit intent that it remain a conservation park. Their commitment was reaffirmed in RDCO’s 2005 Kalamoir Regional Park Management Plan, which states:“Kalamoir Regional Park was originally conceived as a nature sanctuary, a place where nature was to be enjoyed with as little impact as possible.” “Protecting the natural environment is considered RDCO Parks’ primary responsibility.”
Do we need to say more?
The group lobbying for the changes to Kalamoir Park is the Trails Of The Okanagan (TOTO). The changes they are proposing could make it Rail Trail South
The RDCO is proposing to upgrade the infrastructure of Kalamoir Park to accommodate E bikes.
· To include more parking.
· To widened trails and through our conservation park to 2.4 wide trail with a 1m buffer on each side.
· To ignore the Riparian Areas Protection Regulation (RAPR, BC Reg. 178/2019)
o Which was established to safeguard riparian and aquatic ecosystems from potentially harmful development activities.
The Casa Loma Community Association Directors feel that a 4.4m trail (14.5 ft) is not suitable for a conservation park. That width of 4.4m trail is really an active transportation highway rather than a walking trail. A 2.4m trail with no buffer on either side, would be much more suitable for a conservation park and it would fit with the size of the bridges that the RDCO are proposing,

Many people in this community, including the Friends of Kalamoir and Lakeview Heights Community Association are against any significant upgrade to the trails in Kalamoir Park. They would like to preserve the Conservation Park.
There are viable alternatives to Kalamoir Park for people using bikes. It would also give them access to businesses and wineries on the West Kelowna Wine Trail. Alternative routes;
Optional routes rather than through Kalamoir Park
If you feel strongly keeping Kalamoir Park a conservation park, please express your opinion by contacting
