CASA LOMA 36th AGM and BBQ

Casa Loma Community Association annual AGM and BBQ. 36 years and still kicking!

Welcome Special Guests. The city of West Kelowna, Mayor Milsom, Council members, Rick de Yong, and Carol Zennon.     We have had regrets from Tasha Da Silva, Garret Millsap, Jason Friesen and Stephen Johnston. And former mayor, Doug Findlater.

We thank retiring member Brenda Henschel for all her hard work on the board of directors.

Current Board of Directors. Amy Bell, Jesper Kock, Jill Rodrigues, Frederica Roberson, Ryan Holt, Scott Rowland and George Lake, President. We have a new member joining us this year, Alicia McCreary

“We hope you are never busy!”

Thank you Chief Brolund, for keeping us safe last summer.

The Casa Loma Community Association has been working hard on a number of projects this past year.

We are looking at ways to cut our costs. We do everything we can as a “Not for Profit” organization. MSN365 Zero cost, Bank fees gone! Now it is only $1.25 per E transfer. Working with Save on Foods for discounts and donations for the AGM.

We are looking for other ways to help cut costs, so we can focus our budget on building community.

Some of these cost cuttings seem small but they also help us watch how we spend the funds. The CLCA has acquired Square, at no charge, for collecting membership fees and donations. We expect this will help increase the membership enrollment with an easy tap and go. There is a fee to us for tap, between 12 and 20 cents depending on the card used.

Directors hard at work!

Two projects the CLCA are working on, yes slowly, are;

·         First a “Welcome Package” for new residents to the Casa Loma area. This has prompted an upgrade to our website with a new page called “Parks and Beaches of Casa Loma.

This page will also include some walks to do in and around Casa Loma.

·         Second is an exciting page titled “Shop Local”. It is for the residents of Casa Loma who would like to promote their business.

Individual business people, like plumbers, landscapers, hair stylists or someone who is active within a company such as, real estate, food service, restaurant or retail sales.

“Shop Local” will be a free site, although we will accept donations. See the link to Shop Local.

Upcoming Events for 2024

·         A day of games and fun for families

·         A movie night

·         Halloween event for kids of all ages!

After all the speeches, the food was on!

CASA LOMA 35th AGM and BBQ

The AGM WAS held Saturday JUNE 17, 2022, at 12:00, in Dupuis Park.

WOW!! WHAT A PARTY!!

ONE HUNDRED PLUS NEIGHBOURS AND FRIENDS.

35 years ago, from a newsletter.

The letter that started the ball rolling to a very successful 35th ANNIVERSARY AGM and BBQ.

“Hi Neighbors!!

At the Community Picnic on September 11th, we decided we need a group to represent Casa Loma to “maintain and improve the quality of life in Casa Loma”.

A meeting of volunteers was held on September 27th and a Board elected to serve until June 30th, 1989. The officers are: President, Brad Rickards, Vice President, Paul Nesbitt, Treasurer, Rose Brenner, Secretary, Dora Duggan, Assistant to Secretary, Fran Farr.”

The Casa Loma Community thanks you Mayor Milsom and Paul Gipps for attending our 35th Anniversary AGM and BBQ. Then answering questions from the residents, where we learned a lot of what is coming.

The Casa Loma Community would also like to thank Council Members Rick de Jong, Carol Zannon, Garrett Millsap and Tasha Da Silva for attending. Regrets from Stephan Johnson and Jason Friesen.

After a short speech by our president Ryan Holt and an acknowledgement of the former presidents, the party started.

BBQ burgers, pulled chicken, hot dogs, european wieners, pasta, Caesar and great salads and drinks! WHAT A FEAST! All ending with the 35th ANNIVERSARY CAKE.

MMMM GOOD!

Just couldn’t wait!

To top that off THE big surprise, an Ice Cream Truck for all to enjoy!

A special thanks goes out to Bob Would and Chris Robertson for slaving over hot BBQ’s. To Kevin Mercier helping the chefs. But most importantly a GREAT big hand to Lynda Would and Natalie Mercier for behind the scenes kitchen help. And to all the others that help put this event together!
